Approaching BioMA-Spatial

November 2, 2015 @ 10:00 - 17:30

The MODEXTREME approach is to reuse several modelling solutions “as they are“, and extend them with new models to account for extreme events. This can be achieved, avoiding duplication, by implementing modelling solutions at fine granularity in the same platform, in this case BioMA.

This training was an ancillary event to the 2nd MODEXTREME Annual Meeting and provided with a detailed training on BioMA platform.

Summary & Agenda

BioMA-Spatial is one of the BioMA applications, and it allows running modelling solutions against explicit spatial units. The modelling solutions which can be run in this application are the same which can be run using BioMA-Site. After modelling solution evaluation using BioMA-Site, WP4 partners are requested to run the modelling solutions against a sample of weather for current condition and future climate scenarios. This will be done by connecting for weather data to the MODEXTREME server.
BioMA-Spatial is an articulated application, and its use requires some training. We used the annual meeting for a first approach to the software. We also used the last part of the day for a session of questions about the ongoing use of BioMA-Site.

Get a first hands on experience on BioMA-Spatial use.

The format was:

  • Installation of BioMA-Spatial on participants’ laptops
  • Walkthrough example of use of BioMA-Spatial (linked to data in the file system provided with the installation)
  • Final session on BioMA-Site simulations

Requirements: Laptop with Windows 8.1 or higher

BioMA trainers: Michele Ficarazzi (CREA), Luca Erba (CREA), Gianni Fila (CREA), Fabrizio Ginaldi (CREA)
