Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) was established in 1973 and is the sole University in the convergence region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. In this project participates the Software Engineering Collaboratory for the Environment which is part of the Software Lab at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Our team is located at the new Engineering School campus in Xanthi, and we are conducting research related to space internetworking, software interoperability, open access platforms, software engineering, data mining, high performance internetworked systems, cloud computing, and semantic web, with focus on applications related to the environment and agriculture.
Ioannis N. Athanasiadis (Assistant Professor, PhD) research interests include software engineering, intelligent information systems, ecoinformatics, knowledge engineering, and machine learning. He has contributed several research papers treating intelligent software systems for environmental information processing, semantics of complex scientific data, metadata and ontologies for agriculture and ecology. He has received several best paper awards for his research results, and distinctions for his performance as a reviewer. Currently is an Editor of the journal Environmental Modelling & Software, published by Elsevier (IF 2012: 3.114). Within Modextreme, Ioannis leads Workpackage 6.
Stavros Foteinopoulos (IaaS Engineer, System Administrator, MSc) interests are information security, digital forensics field and cloud infrastructure. He has worked as System and Network Administrator. He is system administrator and webmaster of the Modextreme cyber infrastructures.
